Black Spiders Lesson 6

We love our sing-along stories! Reading aloud with children is one activity that is good for children from infancy through adolescence. In fact, some experts advocate reading to unborn babies as early as 10 weeks before their due date! While reading aloud is most common in early childhood, the benefits of reading aloud continue into the teen years!

Reading stories that have no basis in reality is not just all fun and games! Reading fantasy stories like our Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly story, encourages children to explore and develop their own imagination, and children with well-developed imaginations tend to show increased problem solving abilities. The unique nature of fantasy stories means that understanding and processing them can also lead to greater reading comprehension in general.

Optional home fun activity:

Do the Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly activity on page 22 & 31 in your student workbook

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
