Purple Magic Lesson 13

Updated: Dec 10, 2023

On this week's Jingle Bells homework: Remember...it doesn't have to be perfect. Writing music, transposing, finding the correct harmony...these are all incredibly difficult concepts. Just thinking through it and doing their best is great at this stage. Think about when your child was learning how to write...they didn't write their letters or spell words correctly at first, but that's okay because it is a really difficult massive undertaking. At first, approximating the correct drawing and spelling is good enough. Just like learning to write, we will worry about perfection and increasing their musical vocabulary a little at a time.

Next week is Showtime for Twinkle, Jingle Bells and Away in a Manger!

Have your students focus on one 'variation' to play for me-- maybe they can even come up with their own minor or fancy variation. Here is one of our very own Let's Play Music graduates playing their jazzy variation of Twinkle Twinkle.

Away in a Manger

This repertoire piece is a fun one - using both hands in the treble clef. It's kind of a bonus song along with Jingle Bells. We will show off that we understand the skills in class, but don't forget these fun songs and keep working on them over the semester break.

With the holidays approaching here is a Gift-Buying Guide for Musical Kids
